1. Title of film: The Four Feathers
2. Date of film: 2002
3. Rating: PG-13
4. Brief description of the film: Set in colonial England, a British soldier with a promising future in the military and a soon to be wedding, decides suddenly to resign from his regiment. He is branded as a coward while all his friends go off to fight in the Sudan. However, after hearing his friends have been attacked, his purpose becomes clear as he sets off to find them and redemption.
5. Comments on how film portrays religion: The role of religion does not play heavily on the film, however, through-out the entire movie the lead actor is struck with choices on morality he must make. The view of ultimate love is explored as many times friends die in the course of the movie and how they are viewed afterward. Also, Harry’s redemption is woven through-out the film in what he sacrifices for everyone.
6. Description and location of specific clips: In the beginning Harry and Esme are in churches talking about their wedding and how that is something they are excited for waiting for. The church is seen a positive light. Also, towards the end there are many scenes in a prision where life and death are talked about and Harry speaks of the need for more to life.
7. Final comments: The film does a wonderful job of showing what it means to lay down your life for another and to live for someone besides yourself. It is also a beautiful story of love and waiting and hoping in that love. The theme of redemption is huge throughout the entire move.
